Evaluating the progress and effectiveness of your Process Safety Management program can be challenging. RCP’s experts have the experience in program evaluation and improvement. Regardless of the maturity level of your company, RCP can benefit you.

PROCESS SAFETY CULTURE SERVICES

RCP’s new Safety Culture Survey helps companies identify the strengths and weaknesses of their safety culture by measuring employees’ perceptions about the current safety culture, including management support for safety, peer support for safety, and personal responsibility for safety.

RELIEF DEVICE REVALIDATION OR DESIGNING STUDIES

RCP’s validation includes multiple calculations of the anticipated relief flow rate for all applicable overpressure scenarios for the protected systems. These include inlet and outlet pressure drop simulations that are based on the current isometrics for each individual device’s installation.

PHA/LOPA/HAZOP

Our team is leading the way in assisting clients with industry-accepted methods for conducting PHA/LOPA evaluations. Our studies provide simple risk quantification with robust results to ensure proper mitigation is implemented where needed.

PROJECT ENGINEERING

RCP’s expert engineers can assist with any Process Safety Management engineering needs. Current services range from design reviews to on-site deployment to assisting your engineering team. For additional details, please contact our marketing team.

TRAINING SERVICES

Training services are available at the Houston office or on-site for relief device sizing, flare evaluation, and PHA/LOPA.

Relief Device and Flare Study Q&A

Relief Device Validation

Q1: WHY DO I NEED TO DO A RELIEF DEVICE REVALIDATION STUDY?

A: Processes Units may change over the lifetime of the facility. These changes can range from new feed stock, increase unit throughput, or new unprotected equipment. A revalidation study can assist in ensuring every piece of process equipment is adequately protected for the anticipated relief rates.

Q2: WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A RELIEF DEVICE REVALIDATION STUDY?

A: A “complete” relief device study will include all protected system documentation, scenario identification, relevant calculations, inlet and outlet pressure drop evaluations, dispersion analysis when applicable, and flare backpressure when applicable.

Q3: WHY IS THIS INFORMATION HELPFUL?

A: A relief device study can assist in determining how to the process unit may react to process upsets in the worst case scenario.

Q4: HOW IS THE DOCUMENTATION DELIVERED?

A: RCP will conduct an initial kickoff meeting with a project timeline and milestones. Several times during the life of the project, the project manager will engage with the project owners to ensure the end product is accurate, delivered in a timely manner, and presented to ensure all parties have a complete understanding of worst case sizing for each evaluated unit, refinery, or flare.

Q5: HOW LONG DOES THE REVALIDATION STUDY TAKE TO COMPLETE?

A: RCP is geared to make any deadline that would be required, but typically the project completion time ranges from 3-4 months for a refinery, and a month for a natural gas processing plant.

Q6: WHY SHOULD YOU USE RCP FOR YOUR RELIEF DEVICE STUDY?

A: RCP Experts have been trained to evaluate all the code scenario as well as have the knowledge of how to quickly calculate the required relief rates. Most companies will evaluate the worst case scenario, but RCP provides additional screenings on possible credits that can be applied. For additional details please contact RCP for a subject matter expert.

Q7: HOW DOES IT MAKE MY ORGANIZATION BETTER?

A: Knowing the organization’s perception of their culture helps managers identify, prioritize and address specific problems at reasonable costs.

Q8: HOW DO I MEASURE SUCCESS?

A: Initial surveys create the baseline to establish metrics and develop an action plan. Subsequent surveys help to monitor your organization’s progress and validate improvements.
